My Skincare Routine

When people compliment me on my skin, or ask what I do to get it to look the way it does, I almost can’t believe it. In high school, I used to suffer from extremely bad acne, and sometimes, I forget that my skin has improved since that period of my life. I am a firm believer in the power of a dermatologist, and cured my acne and scarring through prescribed products, however, I have found a few products over the years that I have added to my skincare routine that have truly made a difference in my skin. Today, I will be sharing those products, along with some other tips on how to keep your skin looking radiant, refreshed, and moisturized without makeup!

Before I go into detail about skincare products that require money, I want to stress the importance of a product that is essentially free and easy to access- WATER! I know, I know, I sound like a mom who thinks water is the cure to everything, but to be honest, it kind of is. By simply splashing some water on your face before you go to sleep and after you wake up, your skin is going to be cleansed from the dirt, bacteria, and oils that built up throughout the day/night. Also, by ensuring that you are drinking the recommended 8 ounces of water a day, you are not only adding a glow to your skin, but also helping your overall health!

A lot of people might have a go-to every day cleanser that they swear by, but personally, I have found that using a cleanser every day can be a bit harsh on my skin. On an every day basis, I use water to cleanse my skin, as well as the Neutrogena Make Up Remover Cleansing Towelettes. When I want a deeper clean, however, I use Let The Good Times Roll face and body cleanser from LUSH. I love Let The Good Times Roll because it is made from all natural ingredients, does not have a hefty price tag, and makes my skin feel amazing. I use this product a few times a week, or whenever my skin is feeling t a bit ‘blah’. This product not only makes my skin feel brand new, but also has an amazing scent to it. Although it is described as a popcorn smell, it reminds me of a frosted cupcake or sugar cookie candle. Yum!

Although I do not use a daily cleanser, daily moisturizing is not something I skip out on. By buying a good moisturizer, you are making an investment in your skin. You may not love the price tag of the products, but you will love the results of your skin in a few years. I use Bobbi Brown’s Hydrating Face Cream right when I wake up and right before I go to sleep. Tip: Give your skin a little massage every nightly with this product to increase circulation and give you a natural glow. I try to do this every night, and have seen and felt a difference. As for eye cream, I know many people think that it is unnecessary to use at such a young age, but I couldn’t disagree more! The earlier you start, the less chance there will be for you to have problems in the future. It is a lot cheaper to buy an eye cream than to pay for fillers/ an eyelift later on in life, so don’t skip out! I use Bobbi Brown’s Hydrating Eye Cream again, once in the morning and once at night.

Lastly, on days that I want to give my skin some extra TLC, I love using face masks! If I am having a specific problem with my skin (redness, dryness etc.), I will use a particular mask to aid with that, but for days where my skin is being pretty normal, I use Mask of Magnaminty by LUSH. This product leaves your skin feeling extremely clean and smooth, due to its cleansing and exfoliating properties. Mask of Magnaminty works for most skin types and, because it is from LUSH, is made from all natural ingredients and does not test on animals!

My skincare routine is pretty basic, but it works for me! For reference, my skin is not oily, but does get dry, especially in the winter. It is essential for me to have a routine that is manageable, or I start to get lazy with it! This routine is perfect for me, and allows me to add products to correct problem areas as they appear! Having nice, beautiful skin is not easy or instant, but so worth the effort. As always, if I am missing a product that you think I need in my life, don’t hesitate to let me know in the comments.
